If by rite we mean the confirmation and potentially infinite relaunch of an apparently (and/or partially) codified procedure, it is precisely the signs that articulate its development that assume the role of generators of the rite itself. A sign becomes a rite at the exact moment in which, once it has fulfilled its task as a referent, it tends to proceed towards itself aiming for its own satisfaction. This disposition reconfigures it continuously, symbiotically renewing and increasing the system that contains it.
