This piece is part of the Especies náufragas project, which
focuses on the story of the discovery of the San José Galleon
and the entire controversy surrounding its famed treasure,
both between the governments of Spain and Colombia, as
well as with the US company Sea Search Armada.
In attempts to refloat the galleon, once the emblem of the
Fleet of the Indies, colonial tensions surface in the waters
off Cartagena and the Rosario Islands, where the remains of
its famed treasure lie. The relationship between colonialism
and tourism is evident in the former fortresses that today
serve as backdrops for tourist photos with the Caribbean
Sea in the background.
This project was made possible thanks to the Flora Ars + Natura artist residency
in collaboration with AC/E and the Joan Miró Foundation, where this project was
exhibited
